SEO Tools That We Love

SEO Tools that we love

As a marketing manager or business owner it seems almost impossible to go a working week without someone trying to sell you SEO. Whether this is in the form of a pop-up advert or a cold call, it can often become overwhelming and cause you to immediately get your guard up. Whilst frustrating, it is impossible to ignore that fact that if your business operates online you should be attempting to rank number 1 on Google for the product or service you provide.

When it comes to SEO the best thing you can do is have a go yourself first. Only when you reach a point that you can go no further should you look for expert advice. Here at Invanity we want to help you take that first step which is why we have collated a list of our 5 favourite SEO tools.

  1. HubSpot Website Grader- https://website.grader.com/

This tool is free and simple to use. All you have to do is put your email and website URL into the tool and it will churn out data on your site security, page speeds, SEO performance and how mobile friendly your site is. The website grader analyses all the factors that will help improve your SEO along with solutions to the problems it may uncover. In order to perform well in search engine rankings your website has to be 100% mobile friendly, secure, have a sound technical SEO base (meta tags and headers) and it has to be fast. This free tool enables you to identify any issues and provides you with solutions to existing problems.

  1. MOZ blog- https://moz.com/blog

MOZ is a fantastic SEO tool and we cannot exaggerate this enough, but unless you are a large business or a specialist agency like ourselves it can be expensive. Alternatively their blog is free to read and provides phenomenal insights from industry experts who work for the largest SEO software provider in the world. Their advice will really help you begin understanding more about SEO and how to move your business up in Googles rankings, plus their easy to use website and blog categorisation makes it simpler than ever!

  1. GTmetrix page speed analyser- https://gtmetrix.com/

This free tool will provide you with highly accurate data on the speeds of your website and importantly also provide you with solutions on how to make your website faster. It is crucially important to have a fast website because a slow website leads to a poor user experience. Consumers who have a poor user experience will disengage out of pure frustration. Not only does this prevent your message from being delivered but it also affects your Google ranking as they use data on how people are using and interacting with your site in their ranking algorithms.

  1. MOZ online listings check- https://moz.com/checkout/local/check

This free SEO tool will allow you to check all the listings for your business across the internet. Just fill your company details in and hit submit. This is a great SEO tool because its crucially important to have a consistent online listing. If your business is listed inconsistently online Google has problems ranking you effectively. In contrast if you are consistent in who you are, what you do, where you do it from and why you do it then Google will be able to effectively rank you in their search results. These online listings include things like 118 118 and yell.com which can also help deliver small amounts of qualified traffic to your website. Our favourite thing about the online listings check is that it tells you immediately where your listings are inconsistent and provides an extensive list of different directories you should be in but currently are not, allowing you to fix any issues and expand your online presence.

  1. Google Search Console- https://search.google.com/search-console/about

Google Search Console provides a wide range of tools and reports that support you in understanding more about how Google currently views your website in addition to what keywords you currently rank for. This is not the easiest tool to set up and may require the support of a developer, but we promise it is worth it. By understanding more about what Google sees in your website and what keywords people are finding you for, it is possible to make more informed decisions regarding your SEO strategy moving forward.

Final thoughts

Hopefully by using these tools you will be able to understand more about how to get your website ranking highly in Google without having to spend thousands of pounds a month on SEO. There will come a time when you need to do this but try and do it yourself first, it is possible, then come to experts when you need further help or reach a stumbling block.
